The All-New Hyundai Santa Cruz
Takes on the New Ford Maverick and Honda Ridgeline

Say Hello to the New Hyundai Santa Cruz

Compact pickups offer unique versatility and can still pack a punch. The all-new Hyundai Santa Cruz is one of those unique trucks. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is labeled as a Sport Adventure Vehicle, combining SUV and pickup traits. It's got guts on the outside and glamour on the inside.

Before buying from Bronco Motors Hyundai, Idaho shoppers can see how the new Hyundai Santa Cruz stacks up against its competitors in the compact truck class like the Ford Maverick and Honda Ridgeline.

Hyundai Santa Cruz vs. Ford Maverick

Performance

You can tow more between Boise and Nampa in the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which has a 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity, topping the Ford Maverick's 4,000-pound max towing rating. Base models for the Maverick can only tow 2,000 pounds.

The Ford Maverick's powertrain features an output of 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. With its base 2.5-liter inline-4 engine, Hyundai's compact truck matches that power output with 191 ponies, and easily tops the torque figure at 181 pound-feet.

Both trucks offer a turbocharged engine, but the Santa Cruz is the superior powertrain. The Maverick's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine produces 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, lower figures than the Santa Cruz's 2.5-liter turbocharged powertrain producing 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Drivers can also handle a heavier payload in the Hyundai Santa Cruz with a 1,900-pound max payload rating, topping the Ford Maverick's 1,500 pounds.

Utility

The Ford Maverick features a 4.5-foot customizable FLEXBED™, but the Hyundai Santa Cruz's four-foot truck bed is more durable and offers more utility. Hyundai's truck has underfloor beds for additional storage, plus lockable in-bed storage, cargo area lighting, power outlets, cleats, tie downs and storage shelf bedsides. The Ford Maverick doesn't offer additional truck bed storage.

Technology

Both trucks have a standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, but the Hyundai Santa Cruz's phone compatibility is wireless. The Santa Cruz's Hyundai SmartSense safety suite offers several driver assists, while the Ford Co-Pilot360™ is not offered for the Ford Maverick.

Hyundai Santa Cruz vs. Honda Ridgeline

Performance

Both trucks tow 5,000 pounds, but the Honda Ridgeline can only handle a 1,500-pound payload compared to 1,900 pounds for the Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Honda Ridgeline's standard 3.5-liter V6 engine achieves 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, but those performance ratings are lower than the Hyundai Santa Cruz's 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged engine. Both pickups provide all-wheel drive, as the Honda Ridgeline has an i-VTM4® AWD system compared to the Hyundai Santa Cruz's HTRAC AWD. The Honda Ridgeline has lower fuel economy ratings of 18/24 (city/highway) miles per gallon compared to the 21/27 figures for the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Utility

When the Honda Ridgeline's tailgate is up, the bed measures 64 inches long, but the Hyundai Santa Cruz's four-foot truck bed is all about durability and utility. With a more durable truck bed for storage and useful exterior features, the Hyundai Santa Cruz helps out Boise drivers for any storage need.

Technology

The Honda Ridgeline's Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ setup isn't wireless like the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Both trucks tout navigation, but the Hyundai Santa Cruz offers a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and another 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Thanks to Hyundai SmartSense, the Santa Cruz provides Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. The Honda Ridgeline's Blind Spot Information System isn't standard.
