Boise shoppers save money on a Hyundai Elantra, which has a lower MSRP of $19,950, compared to the Toyota Corolla's $20,175 price tag.
Interior
There's also significantly more cargo space in the Hyundai Elantra, which has more than an extra cubic foot of trunk space at 14.2 compared to the Toyota Corolla's 13.1 cubic feet. Plus, the Corolla doesn't have the hands-free smart trunk release that the Elantra does. Hyundai's sedan has a more luxurious cabin, offering leather-trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and an Integrated Memory System.
Technology
Both sedans have several driver assists, as the Corolla's Toyota Safety Sense 2.0™ suite counters the Elantra's Hyundai SmartSense setup. Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist is standard on the Hyundai Elantra but not on the Toyota Corolla.
There's more wireless connectivity in the Hyundai Elantra, which has Wireless Device Charging and standard Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. The Toyota's smartphone integration isn't wireless.
Performance
The Hyundai Elantra earns higher fuel economy ratings on Idaho highways, up to 56 miles per gallon in its hybrid model compared to 52 miles per gallon for the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. Base models for Toyota's sedan earn 31/40 (city/highway) miles per gallon, while the Elantra earns a superior 33/43 miles per gallon.
The Toyota Corolla's power output is also lower, as the 1.8-liter inline-4 engine only delivers 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. With the Hyundai Elantra, Boise drivers get 147 horsepower from the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder base engine and the option of a 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain or a 1.6-liter Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine delivering 201 horsepower.
Hyundai Elantra vs. Honda Civic
Price
If Boise shoppers are on a budget, they can save thousands of dollars on the Hyundai Elantra ($19,950 MSRP), rather than buying the Honda Civic ($22,350).
Performance
The Honda Civic earns 32/42 miles per gallon, but there's no hybrid, and those fuel economy ratings don't eclipse the Elantra's 33/43 miles per gallon ratings.
Both sedans have an optional turbocharged engine, but the Honda Civic's only produces 180 horsepower, compared to the Hyundai Elantra's 201 ponies.
Interior
The Honda Civic's sedan model has a 14.8 cubic-foot trunk, but the 0.6 cubic feet of trunk space is hardly noticeable. Plus, the Hyundai Elantra offers comfort features like the Integrated Memory System that Honda's sedan can't match.
Technology
The Honda Sensing® safety suite packages similar driver assists, but a Blind Spot Information System are Cross Traffic Monitor only options. Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist is standard for the Hyundai Elantra.
The Hyundai Elantra's optional 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and Dynamic Voice Recognition is the largest display in its class, besting the Honda Civic's 9-inch infotainment screen. Even the Elantra's standard tech setup is superior, offering an 8-inch color display to the Honda Civic's 7-inch screen. Both sedans offer wireless charging, but the Hyundai Elantra includes standard Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, which isn't wireless on the Honda Civic.
